Umbral Reach are a minor faction.

The Goals of Umbral

Umbral Reach serves as the main story motivator as the player starts as a mercenary in the employ of Umbral's Mysterious Employer. What's less clear - and could not be more opaque - is what Umbral actually is, why it does what it does, nor what are its goals.

Umbral methods of expansion are unlike anything else encountered and rely primarily on infiltration, electronic warfare, and insidious taking over of stations without their owners ever noticing it. They are hacking experts, creators of various bots to track and steal cargo, commandeer ships and more. They join the Conquest war in this fashion and can easily dominate the entire Conquest sector without anyone realizing.

While it's conceivable ECHO is one of Umbral, and that Umbral is an entirely AI-led faction, fact remains they use human agents when needed, such as Stella Chion, or mercenary captains like the player.

Umbral Reach Characters

Umbral Quests and Shops

After the main story line where the player helps Umbral to establish themselves in Conquest, every station controlled offers a daily quest - hidden in the Mission Board. These quests reset at midnight, and offer massive rewards in both cash and Mars tokens.

Similarly, every controlled station hosts a secret Umbral Shop. Item level in this shop depends on the Conquest Rating with the station's nominal owner; for each rank of Conquest Reputation, items in Umbral shop are increased by +2. Thus, at maximum reputation (4500), the station's Umbral Shop will offer level 74 items - of the highest rarities.

Ships Manufactured

Umbral Reach has no need for ships - it does not own shipyards, and offers no ships for sale.
