Credits are the basic exchange currency within Vanguard Galaxy. For the first 30 levels, player will hardly encounter alternative currencies, after which point both types of currencies become relevant. Credits themselves, are universally short-hand for "Energy Credits", though this is not substantiated in the game itself.
Easiest way to view current Credits available is at the Inventory screen:
Gaining Credits

At the most basic level, Credits are gained through various basic activities:
- Combat - performing combat missions for money, and/or looting remains and selling excess gear
- Mining - mining the asteroids for missions or free-form, and then selling the ore
- Salvage - salvaging scrap from wrecks, for missions or free-form, and then selling it
- Trade - Running bulk trade runs across Intertrade Network stations' Trade Terminals for profit
In addition, player may try their hand at smelting scrap in the Refinery, then forging high-value items for sale in Forge.
Money can also be found in Locked Containers, though those cost some money to open, and can be a gamble until the player is well-established.
No type of activity is much better than others in terms of raw credits gained, and player should pick any activity they like. (*)
(*) This is a lie, but it is not relevant until level 60.
Spending Credits
Much easier activity than gaining them, credits are needed whenever player interacts with any station services, such as Shops, Forge, Refinery, Workshop, Shipyard, Personal Hangar/Repair, or when fat stacks of Credits are needed for various quests.
