Refinery is a station service which allows the player to smelt down ores, scrap and junk materials into refined materials - for further use in the Forge.
Refineries and Forges are linked - any station with a Forge will also have a Refinery. Nominally, Steel Vultures, Mindus Holdings and Forge Industries have both refineries and forges.
Exception: Conquest stations in Ara Martis never have forges, not even when belonging to one of these three factions. However, Forge Industries do not participate in Conquest (and have no conquest stations), and the other two have non-conquest stations spread through the subsector.
The Industry Skill tree deals with refining and crafting, speeding the time required for any action, and allowing for many additional refining queues.
Refinery overview
Items that can be processed in the refinery will be listed in the overview on the right side. The Refinery will check both Cargo and the Materials storage, and will combine if needed - having 10 ore in Cargo and 50 in Materials will allow for a single queue of 60 to be set for refining.
Refining Materials

To refine Materials listed in the overview click on a material, adjust the quantity by either using the slider or using the manual field. The cost to refine the set quantity will be shown, along with the time required in the bottom right.
Refinery cost and outcome example:
Refining progress
The progress of the currently active refining Job will be shown on the left side. When hovering over a Job you can see the remaining time and the amount still left to produce. A job can be cancelled at any time by clicking the red X, with the full or partial return of the starting cost.
- Amount of simultaneously active Jobs starts at 2, but can be raised by the Industry Skill Tree.
Refined Materials Bay
Refined Materials are stored in a global shared inventory. You can manually remove all or a portion at any time from any station by clicking on the material.
The Refined Materials Bay is not capped (limited in size), unlike standard Cargo/Armory/Materials inventories.
Refinable Items
Generally every type of ore refines into 2 or 3 materials, in specific ratios. Salvaged materials normally belong to a specific material type (eg. Titianium Fragment, Platinum Scrap), but some salvaged mid-products can be broken down into multiple components (eg. Computer Unit, Hull Beam).
For a list of refinable ores, see Mining. For a list of salvageable items, see Salvage.
None of the items produced through Forge can be refined back into refined materials.
