Reputation determines player standing among the Factions.

Reputation is increased by performing missions for the Faction issuing missions, or by performing missions which help the faction indirectly (See Patrol, Bounty Hunt). Attacking ships of a faction decreases the reputation significantly if it is positive (-200 for small ship destroyed, -800 for large ship destroyed), but once negative, the reputation slides down relatively slowly.

Throughout Frontier (See Navigation) reputation cna be increased with all factions with the exception of Corsair Syndicate which serve as the default enemy. Once the player reaches Conquest Zone, the Corsairs can finally be befriended, and Meridia's Chosen takes on the mantle of the default enemy.

Increasing reputation with a faction grants bonuses to interactions with them as shown below.

(*) As of v0.8, Distinguished is the highest attainable reputation rank - Exalted can not be reached.

Salvaging Negative Reputation

Within Conquest Zone it is quite likely to dip hard into negative reputation with a faction, and the reputation with the Corsair Syndicate will start as heavily negative. Doing "conciliary missions" at the faction embassy (See Conquest Zone) will enable the player to rapidly increase the reputation to positive zero, and end War status. Each of these missions can grant 1000-1500 reputation, until relations return to neutral. After this point, missions grant regular rewards in terms of reputation and gains.

Reputation and Ships

Having a working relationship with factions is necessary if one wishes to purchase their ships. Larger ships have specific reputation thresholds the player needs to meet, before the faction will sell to the player. Destroyers and other Size 5+ ships require Conquest Reputation standing, in addition to Cash, standard reputation, and will also require Mars commendations. For this reason player should plan ahead and not anger the faction prematurely.
