* Is it worth upgrading items this way? Depends on the situation, but generally no. Naturally spawned higher-grade items will have more substats and allow for more aspects.

4. '''Upgrade item quality:'''

* Increase the quality of the Item. This will be displayed as the yellow Q(Number) in the tooltip of the item. Upgrading the quality increases the current active substats.
* Is it worth upgrading items this way? If it's a high-rarity or already-customized module, then yes.

Workshop Overview

The workshop is a station utility available only in non-Conquest Steel Vultures stations. It allows the player to modify all types of ship systems - hardpoints (turrets) and modules alike.

Workshop Operations

To start working on a module, drag it onto the Workshop or right-click it. After moving the module you can see the module overview.

1. Reroll substats: Only one substat can be rerolled, and doing so will lock the other two in place - they will not be editable from this point on. For this reason it's advised only items with other two beneficial substats are customized this way, unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

  • What stats are beneficial? A substat granting Torpedo Power is not helpful on a ship without torpedoes. Similarly a substat adding Salvage Power to a Mining Laser is not really helpful, unless one is building a ship that is supposed to both Mine and Salvage at the same time (for example for Forge Industries Industrial Operations).

2. Remove or change an Aspect: Only items with an aspect slot can be used this way. Removing an aspect will destroy the item, but will save the aspect in your Cargo/Armory so it can be added/changed on another item.

  • Which aspects are helpful? Nominally all of them, and it is advised to slowly build a substantial inventory of aspects extracted from junk items one would otherwise sell.

3. Upgrading the rarity of an item: One can boost the rarity of an existing item (white->green, green->blue), which will increase the power of the item as higher rarity items grant larger bonuses.

  • Upgrading rarity will boost the overall stats of the Item.

4. Upgrade item quality:

  • Increase the quality of the Item. This will be displayed as the yellow Q(Number) in the tooltip of the item. Upgrading the quality increases the current active substats.

5. Extract blueprint: This option extracts the blueprint of an encountered module up to rare (blue) [exotic (purple) in the Beta currently].

  • This is a fast method to turn a bunch of junk items into blueprints, and speed up the time required to learn all of the blueprints.

6. Rename Item: Self-explanatory.

Workshop Credit and Daily Request

Workshop Credit

Workshop Credit is a stand-in for actual money for all Workshop operations - blueprint extraction, aspect changes, substat rerolls and so on. Outside directly trading in materials and items for Workshop Credit, it is also possible to gain Credit by performing missions for non-conquest Steel Vultures stations. Some missions have Credit as part of their rewards.

Mission Credit:

Daily Request

Daily Request Tooltip

All the workshops have a daily request for materials, which is the same across all stations. If sold these goods, they pay premium price, but not in cash - rather in Workshop Credit.

This means, if the workshop requested Universal Catalysts, they would pay market price (2k) x6, a full 12k in Credit per item delivered. Requests change on daily tick, along with the Bar.

Example of a Daily request:
Workshop Credit

Non-daily turn-ins

Other than daily request, most refined products can be traded in at x4 price multiplier. So, an excess of Durable Alloy - even if it is not the daily item - is better sold to the Workshop for credit (at 4x price) than in the shop, assuming one intends to use the credit in the near future.
