Items in an Armory

Items are a core concept of Vanguard Galaxy.

Items can be gained through any activity - mined, salvaged, looted, bought, rewarded as part of mission rewards, gained by quests and similar.

Item Types

Items in Vanguard Galaxy come in standard categories:

  • Turrets: Any weapon or tool meant for combat or industrial activities, mounted on ship hardpoints.
  • Modules: Ship modules which can be installed into appropriate slots in Personal Hangar. Eg. reactors, engines.
  • Boosters: Related to ship modules, boosters boost activities
  • Consumables: Items used over time (eg. Warp Fuel), instantly (eg. Bonus Skillpoint) or through deployment (eg. Shield Pylon)
  • Ammo: Used for all types of turrets and modules (such as torpedoes)
  • Refined Materials: Craftable items used in construction of turrrets, modules, ammo or consumables
  • Junk: Special items of extreme value
  • Ores: Typically mined from asteroids, to be sold or refined into refined materials
  • Scrap: Typically salvaged from wrecks, to be sold or refined into refined materials

Item Rarity

Rare modules offer more benefits

All items come in the following rarities:

  • White: Standard
  • Green: Enhanced
  • Blue: High grade
  • Purple: Exotic
  • Orange: Legendary

Rarities have myriad effects - sometimes they change item name (green Warp Fuel = Plasma Fuel, blue Warp Fuel = Ion Fuel), sometimes they affect the item abilities (rarer modules have more subsstats and offer more aspect slots, or increase item value in terms of refined materials gained (ores, scrap).

Item Level and Scaling

Item scaling is shown on the name as Mk. I or MK. II. Each 4 levels the Name changes by 1 (roman numberals)

Items start at level 1 to level 4 with Mk. I followed by Mk. II from 5-8 and so on.

Turret Color Coding

Combat turret is colored red

Turrets in particular have their own color coding:

  • Blue: Mining
  • Red: Combat
  • Yellow: Salvage

Module/Turret Sizes

Module size needs to match the ship, otherwise item is highlighted in red

Ship modules and turrets also come in different sizes:

  • Module Size Small: Fits small ships - sizes 1 and 2
  • Module Size Medium: Fits medium ships - sizes 3 and 4
  • Module Size Large: Fits large ships - sizes 5+

Exceptions always exist, as larger ships can normally have smaller module slots - eg. Torpedo Bays (M) on a Large (L) ship, Drone Bays (s) on a Medium on Large ship etc.

Turrets follow generally the same rules, but various ships have vastly different hardpoint sizes. Some small ships will be able to equip medium-sized turrets, and one can always equip a smaller turret onto a larger hardpoint (placing M-sized turret onto an L-sized hardpoint for example).

Item Storage

Different types of items can be stored in different locations:

  • Cargo Bay - all items
  • Armory - modules, turrets, consumables, ammo, boosters, junk
  • Materials Bay (Storage) - ores, scrap, refined products
  • Data Storage - Stores Data Sheets and unlearned Blueprints.

Cargo Bay is specific to the ship in question. When swapping ships, all non-essential items will be transferred to armory and/or materials bay.

Armory is global. It can be accessed from any station.

Materials Bay is local. It is tied to the station and transferring items to another station needs to be performed via ship's cargo and traveling.

Data Storage is global. It can be accessed from any station.
